Abandoned dog scans every house in neighborhood for family

Posted on October 10, 2025October 10, 2025 by AOXEN

As Southern California braced for a historic hurricane last week, a lone white dog wandered the streets of a Los Angeles neighborhood, confused, covered in ticks, and searching every yard for the family who had left him behind.

Residents saw him pacing in front of their homes, peeking under gates and staring through fences, as if asking, “Are you my home?” Many offered food, but no one felt equipped to take him in.

“He was just waiting,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy dog rescue. “He wouldn’t leave the street. He was so loyal; he truly believed his family was coming back.”

But time was running out. With the storm looming, Hall jumped in her van and rushed to the scene. When she arrived, the dog lifted his head at the sound of her car, a flicker of hope in his eyes. For a moment, he seemed to think his family had returned.

Instead, he met someone else: a rescuer.

Hall could see his hesitation. “It was like he knew I was there to help, but he was afraid to let go, like leaving that street meant giving up on the people he loved.”

So she sat with him. Talked to him. Told him the truth.

“We had a long talk,” Hall said. “I told him they weren’t coming back, but that I was here, and I wasn’t leaving without him.”

Eventually, the dog, now named Scooby, allowed Hall to slip a leash around his neck. He climbed into her van and, finally safe, did something he hadn’t done in days: he slept.

“He curled up and instantly passed out,” Hall said. “He’s just the sweetest boy. A total cuddlebug.”

Scooby was rushed to Camino Pet Hospital, where a team of caregivers treated his tick infestation and other ailments. Slowly, the heartbreak began to lift.

Now, Scooby wags his tail with joy. He rolls over for belly rubs. He’s still at the hospital, healing, waiting – but this time, he’s waiting for a real forever home.

“We’re desperate to find the family he deserves,” Hall said. “Someone who’ll never leave him behind again.”
